It’s important to teach kids with braces, how to properly brush and floss their teeth to help ensure a healthy smile. It can be difficult to clean between the wires and brackets but using the right techniques can help prevent bad breath and plaque build up.

Brushing teeth at an early age is key to having a healthy smile but can quickly get interrupted when braces are brought into the mix. With wire and brackets, the braces block parts of the tooth and it makes it hard to reach plaque buildup. It’s recommended to brush your teeth daily, at least after every meal.

Rinse First – Rinsing will help loosen any food that could be stuck in between the brackets.

Brushing – Make sure you brush every tooth at the gum line and above your brackets. Angle the brush upwards to brush the bottom of the wires.

Flossing – Use a floss threader to help brush in between your teeth, wires, and brackets. It’s a great idea for kids to floss every time they brush their teeth.
