The thought of brushing your teeth while wearing braces can seem like a more difficult task than it really is. However, with our helpful tips, we can make brushing your teeth with braces much easier.

Brush your teeth and braces. When brushing it is best to first scrub your teeth and braces with your toothbrush, ensuring that you are getting the bristles of the brush above and under your wires, reaching the sneaky places that food and bacteria can hide.

Brush along the gum line. Next, it is important to thoroughly brush along the gum line, scrubbing the rest of the surfaces that you have not brushed yet.

Rinse and check. When you are done, rinse and check your teeth and braces to ensure that you have efficiently cleaned them.

If perhaps you do not have your toothbrush available and you are not able to brush, be sure to rinse your teeth and mouth with water, which will help to remove any food particles that may be stuck.

Tips For Brushing:

  • Be sure to brush immediately after eating, especially if you have consumed foods high in sugar content.
  • Brush at least 3 times a day.
  • Use a soft bristle toothbrush.
  • Use a waterpik if possible, in combination with your brushing. This will help to eliminate any bacteria and food in those hard-to-reach places.
  • It is critical that people who wear braces follow a brushing schedule, which will help to prevent build up of bacteria in your teeth and mouth, which can increase your risk of tooth decay and cavities.
